Biogem (Biology and Molecular Genetics) is a nonprofit Consortium Ltd. formed by the National Research Council (CNR), the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn of Naples, the University of Naples Federico II, the University of Milano Bicocca, the University of Sannio Benevento, the IRCCSes (Scientific Institute of Admission and Care) Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, Neuromed Foundation, SDN Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce of Avellino.
Biogem, inaugurated in 2006 in the presence of the Nobel Prize Rita Levi Montalcini, comprises a total area of 33.000 square metres of which 8.000 are devoted to research laboratories, teaching facilities and services.

L’ IRGS, Istituto di Ricerche Genetiche “Gaetano Salvatore”
has twelve laboratories (130 square meters each). The research activities undertaken at IRGS all share the study of genes and of the mechanisms involved in severe and widespread human pathologies using animal models. The final goal is to contribute to the identification and creation of novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

Biogem Service is organized as several facilities which provide technologically sophisticated biomedical know-how and services for the IRGS laboratories, for other scientific institutions, and for industry.
